Sergey Toropov is UNICS newcomer

BC UNICS signed a contract with a power forward/center Sergey TOROPOV (205 cm, 99 kg). The agreement with the 34-year-old Russian was concluded according to the 1+1 scheme.

A native of Nizhny Novgorod, over the past two seasons has played for Zenit from St. Petersburg, where he became a bronze medalist of the VTB United League and the Russian Championship (2024), winner of the Russian Cup (2024), two-time winner of the VTB United League Super Cup (2023, 2024). Last season, Toropov took part in 25 matches, averaging 3.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in 10:01 minutes on the floor.

In addition to Zenit, the newcomer of the white-greens previously played for Avtodor Saratov, the capital MBA, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Spartak Primorye from Vladivostok, Temp-SUMZ from Revda and Cherepovets Severstal.

Toropov is a two–time SuperLeague champion (2009, 2014), as well as a bronze medalist of the tournament (2013) as a member of the Saratov club. In addition, the forward reached the finals of the Russian Cup twice: in 2019 with Nizhny Novgorod and in 2023 – playing for Zenit St. Petersburg.

In November 2021, Sergey was included in the Russian national team to participate in the 2023 World Cup qualification matches against the national teams of Italy and Iceland. In February 2022, Toropov was called up to the national team to prepare for the 2023 World Cup qualification with the Dutch national team. The average performance of the UNICS rookie at the end of three matches amounted to 12.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals in 18:53 minutes of playing time.

Sergey Toropov is also a participant in the VTB United League All–Star Game in 2022.
