Georgy ZHBANOV: «For the championship, you need character and the desire to fight to the end»

BC UNICS guard Georgy ZHBANOV shared his impressions of the victory in the final series of the VTB United League over Lokomotiv Kuban with a score of 4-1 and the championship title.

«The season turned out to be difficult. There were heavy defeats and joyful victories in it. We are happy that everything ended successfully in the end! I think we were helped to become champions by faith in each of us, in a friend next to us, as well as the champion DNA of Andrey Vorontsevich [Russian and Euroleague champion] and Marcos Knight [French champion]. If I'm not mistaken, there are no champions at Lokomotiv.

We brought the advantage to "+20" in the previous match of the series, but in the end we went into overtime. Lokomotiv never gives up, especially since this is the final. We must pay tribute to the opponent – the guys fought to the end. Although the series ended with a score of 4-1, it wasn't easy for us at all. All the matches turned out to be difficult and tense.

It's hard to go through a season without a single injury in such a contact sport. Many of our guys had injuries, including me. But you can't take the Cup so easily! For the championship, you need character and the desire to fight to the end, despite the difficulties.

Now, first of all, I will take care of my health, recovery, I will keep fit and prepare for the next season».
