Dimitrios Priftis can be called the most mysterious coach for the whole history of our club. For this moment he worked successfully in Greece and this summer was not scared to change his life and accepted the invitation to be the head coach of UNICS Kazan team.

- UNICS Kazan has changed a lot its roster. What can you say about the new team?

- It`s true. Only Ponkrashov, Colom, Andjusic and Kaimakoglou have stayed from the last season. We came to the agreement with the management of the club and were able to create  a competitive team where we gathered the players with big experience from one side and with high motivation from the other side. And know we need to build  the perfect body that will be able to face any rival.

- What can you say about  Russian players? What quality is determinant for you?

- Our Russian players are really talented. We have players with experience as Ponkrashov and Shukhovtsov. The other players even haven`t played on such a high level but everyday work out and they have a goal in front of them. We have right relations in our team. This is the most important – to build the united team from the players of different level from the personalities every with his own character. They have to support each other in tough moments.

- There is limit on foreign players in Russian basketball. Do you think it will work for their advantage?

- There are limits on foreign players in any championship. I believe that in the team there must be the both categories of the players. The foreign players are very important but I want to point out that without the good basis of the local national players you cannot build a strong team. There must be the balance and the inner chemistry. I think that the limit of 6 players for the game of United VTB League gives enough space to each player.

- We already know our rivals on Eurocup. What can you say about our group. The first game  in VTB League we play against Zenith from Saint-Petersburg. Is it hard to play against such rival?

- I will say this is not a question of that if the opponent is hard or easy, you must fight in every game with any rival. Our group in Eurocup is strong and the trips are hard. I will not point out any teams because all of them are experienced, we must be decent but prepare seriously to each game, fight for every victory.

- Tell us about the team of your assistants who arrived with you…

- I am very pleased with the team of the coaches who work with me. They are all very positive and support me a lot. My first assistant Thomas Nikou has a great experience, he worked with me in all the teams I coached. We know each other  very well. Thomas has graduated the University of Sport and Physical Culture in Greece and has coached the players of different level from schoolboys and students to very little kids until he moved the next level and started to work with professional teams.

Artur Bigeev is a Russian coach. He helps us a lot to deal inside the team. He is still young and puts high goals in front of him. I must admit from the very first days of his work he displayed high level of his knowledge and understanding of basketball. Also he is very merry and hardworking.

Evangelos Spyridis is a young coach,       we worked with him the last 3 years in Aris. He as Thomas has graduated University of sport and physical culture   and together with Artur will be in charge of scouting and video preparation before the game.

Marcus Linder is already well-known in Kazan he is in charge of physical condition. He is an experienced coach, worked on the high level including many year with the National Team of Greece. He is well-educated, knows a lot in his field.

-If it is not a secret, what you talked to players at the first meeting?

-Until the first official meeting I talked a lot with every player individually, during the summer we communicated on phone. I tried to explain to each of them my philosophy and  my seeing of the game. And when we met I explained some special rules, which we must keep to every day and how the team should function as a whole body. I always said that the basis of all are inner relations and psychological preparation. Only cooperation can lead us to the success. We must work  a lot and trust each other.

- For the Kazan fans you are a mysterious person. Tell us about you. What do you like? Which books do you read?

-I must say I am a dull person. I have hobbies, but I remember about them only in summer when the games are finished. During the season I don`t have time for anything except basketball. I like to walk long distances it helps to concentrate, sometimes I run or swim. I like to play tennis with my daughter. I like to reads books about basketball also. After the game I watch the game on video alone or with my colleagues.

- How did you get into basketball?

- When I was little they opened a new basketball playing ground by my place. It changed my life, together with my friends we forgot football and started to play basketball. Later I started to work in a small team in the suburbs of Athens. When I entered the University of Physical culture I started to be involved more in basketball. When I was 21 I started to work with the youth teams in basketball academies. And basketball from the hobby became my work.

- In your career rather tough moments happened. The transfer from women basketball to men basketball, work in the National Team, now- first time in Russia. How easy do  you take these periods?

- The job of a coach is not a dull profession for sure. First of all every season you deal with new persons of different nationalities and culture. At the same time it is hard to implant your values. That is why I always say about the importance of psychological features of people with whom you work. Enthusiasm and disappointment always go together. I don`t like to change places that is why try to stay at the same club or team more than for one season. Sometimes it is not possible.  But this is what I am  looking to in my basketball journey. I like to share, to be part of one team, to communicate with people. I believe in open hearts and fair eyes. The best means to show your respect to others and yourself as well is to be able to open your soul to those people you interact every day. The best professional is emotional.

-With what thoughts did you start working in Russia?

- I feel myself well. I started to adapt to the new page in my life. Of course, it is hard to be away from the family but now it is necessary. What is important with me now very good people work. All the employees of the club are polite and try to help me. The administration of the club and the president Evgeny Bogachev have supported me from the first day. The goals are very clear- to have a successful season. I came to the club after Evgeny Pashutin who worked here 3 years and whom I respect as a person and coach. I will do everything to bring the team to success.
